    I did the quiz without any warning. I got an 18/20. the two I got wrong they were GOOOOOD!! This quiz was HARD, because there some with the bands that drowned out the sympathetic strings, and the keys. #6 was so good, I didn't listen for the keys; they were there keys, what tricked me was the brightness of the instrument. #4 threw me off was the warmness of the fiddle. Awesome quiz! Thanks so much!😊

    Dang. My pride just took a big hit. I was certain that this would be a breeze, but I guess that I don’t listen to enough of this genre of music. I didn’t mistake any nyckelharpas for fiddles, but several of the fiddles deceived me into thinking that they were nyckelharpas.

    I got 16 correct, and 4 unsure which I count as wrong... The fiddle is real easy to pick out for sure, and most of the time when unsure it might be nyckelharpa.. The fiddle is just more agile....

    17 - it's the foot stomping/percussion that tricked me

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  Год назад +3

      Haha, it's a common confusion actually ! I even read a review of a Norwegian traditional music album in a classical music journal where the reviewer wondered who had played the "uncredited, discrete percussion heard throughout the album" 🤭

    14/20 My excuse is that I'm French, so not that used to hearing nyckelharpa. (Hidden message: please come to France and play polska. I love it so much, music and dance. The deep sound of nyckelharpa is just awesome.)

    I got 19. No 6 wrong ... I was very unsure about that one. I could hear what must have been the clicking of the keys, but I couldn't hear anything else in the sound that sounded like nyckelharpa to me so I convinced myself that noise might be just some sort of other percussion. good game!

    I missed 4, No 18 really threw me off because of the two fiddles. The droning was a give away. I didn't hear any clacking of the keys that is normally heard with the nyckelharpa. I did better than I thought I would, despite my lack of musical tallent.

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  Год назад

      There is some clicking of keys though, audible on almost every nyckelharpa extract, but it's quickly "lost" in the rest of the sounds.

    • @tim5cad203
      @tim5cad203 Год назад

      That's kinda what I figured would happen. I can hear the clacking when you are playing the nyckelharpa over your microphone on your videos, but I am also guessing that if the nyckelharpa has a pickup inside of it, the amp would drowned out most of the clacking with noise canceling of the recording equipment. Or make it worse. @@EmelieWaldken

    I'm in shock. My audiophile status shattered. "Fun, and so easy! Must be, I mean. Let's do it quickly." But only 17 out of 20 ... (Missed 4, 6, 12.)
    Phew. I found someone to blame. Fiddler Svante Pettersson! That's the only folksy violin playing I've heard (but for some Cape Breton fiddling on record): VERY classical in tone, no resonance strings. Love his album:

    kinda 18 out of 20. Definitely got 12 wrong...on 19, I called the two fidddles, but mistook the instrument that had the resonant strings on.
    All of them are beautiful!
    That said, I nailed Gavin Pennycook: I got his album a few years ago, and often listen to it when I go to sleep. What I didn't recognize were both Amper samples, which surprised me, because I have a few of her recordings, and she features in my night-listening lists. It's not insomnia, it's something everyone in the family pretty much falls into over 60 years of age. Music makes it better, Nyckelharpa makes it better still!
    Thank you for your videos, Emelie!

    Assumed you would do 50/50 (Swiss/Swedish thing)so ending up with more fiddles than Nh listened back and changed some,perhaps more luck than judgment. Listening to your recommendations,it’s astonishing what top players (obviously including you) can achieve.

    The first ones were tricky because my ear hadn't listened to Scandi Folk in a few days, so it took some of them to get used to the sounds again. And the last ones were tricky because we got multiple violins (especially number 19, with that double-string violin!). But I still got 15/20 correct, including a streak from numbers 7 through 16. Quite proud of myself, I must admit. And it was a fun exercise.
